The Gracie Combatives program was originally developed by the Gracie in the 1990s at the request of the U.S. Army Rangers. The program has been refined over the past 30 years to embody the perfect solution for new jiu jitsu students to develop effective self-defense skills in the shortest length of time possible!

Overview of Gracie Combatives Self Defense
Students studying Brazilian jiu-jitsu's Combatives program experience a structured learning experience with an organized curriculum. The development of the Army Combatives program involved consideration of over 600 jiu-jitsu techniques in order to select 36 techniques that were vital to basic self-defense and easiest to learn for beginners in a short period of time.

Students at Lakewood Jiu Jitsu Academy have access to Gracie University's online library of video instruction for every one of the 36 jiu-jitsu lessons that make up Gracie Combatives self-defense. Students can preview lessons before a class, or review classes after completing them for a comprehensive learning experience.
